Make your own Jewelry Stand for under 50 cents!

How to Make your own Jewelry Stand for less than 50 cents!
A couple months ago I went to Joann Fabrics and I found some adorable jewelry stands. I wanted to buy a couple to use when I set up my booth at festivals and craft shows, but I did not want to spend I think it was around 8 bucks on one! So I took a picture of it, and vowed that one day soon I would make one! A couple days ago that vow came true! Me and my sister did some trial and error, and some creative brainstorming, and we ended up making one for less than 50 cents! And not to toot my own whistle, but it looks good!

Picture
The picture on the left is the actual picture I took at Joann Fabrics (I took it with my flip phone, that's why the quality isn't very good haha), and the picture on the right is the one that we made! I think ours looks sooo good! The only difference is that I didn't use velvety fabric like the one at the store, the bottom post is a little thicker, and instead of just a boring old base, we used a 45 record! Which I think looks awesome!
These jewelry stands are PERFECT for crafters who sell their wares at craft shows and festivals! They work best to hold bracelets (my sister makes hemp bracelets that I sell), but they can also hold necklaces by wrapping the necklace twice around the post.
If you don't sell jewelry, you can still make one of these! Right now I have mine sitting in my room holding my jewelry and it looks SO adorable! And for less than a dollar, and less than half an hour, there's really no reason you shouldn't make one!

So here is my super simple Jewelry Stand Tutorial!
How to Make Your Own Jewelry Stand
What You'll Need:
-A hot glue gun.
If you don't have a hot glue gun, go get one right now! If you do any crafts of any kind at all, ever, you can use a hot glue gun! Thrift stores usually have lots of hot glue guns layin around, and you can always find them at craft stores!
-A small (45) record.
The thrift store by my house (from which I buy everything I need in life, and they know me by name by now!), has small records for 5 for $1.00, so less than a quarter for one!
-Black Fabric.
If you're using the stand for shows, I recommend using black fabric, because it serves as a blank backdrop to better showcase your jewelry. If you use a colorful or patterned fabric, it will only distract from your jewelry. The only exception for this would be if you sell all black jewelry, then using white fabric would be a very good contrast. If you're making this stand as a gift for someone, or for your own jewelry at home, you can use whatever fabric you want! You can just use some of your fabric scraps (all good crafters should have a fabric scrap bin where they put all the scraps from when they're making projects!), I used scraps from a t-shirt that I had in my fabric bin.
-3 toilet paper tubes, or 1 paper towel tube and 1 toilet paper tube.
My family doesn't use paper towels because they are very wasteful and unnecessary, so 3 toilet paper tubes worked perfectly.

Picture
What to Do:
Once your hot glue gun is warmed up, make a ring of glue around the hole of the record. Immediately (the glue dries really fast, so you have to be quick!) stick the toilet paper tube to it. It should be a very close fit, as the toilet paper tube is just a little bit bigger than the record hole.

Picture
Once the glue is dried and the toilet paper tube feels secure (this should take less than a minute), take your fabric scrap and put it around the tube so you can see how big it has to be. I used the sleeves from a t-shirt, and only had to cut it once (down the middle). Cover the toilet paper tube in glue, and wrap the fabric around it. The extra fabric on the top, just tuck it into the top of the tube! You don't have to glue it or cut it or anything!

Picture
For the top of the stand, take your two toilet paper tubes and glue one inside the other, or get your one paper towel tube, and put glue on the entire outside of the tube. Wrap the fabric securely around it. Add more glue as necessary.

Picture
Now for the final steps;
Tuck the ends of the fabric into the tube holes!
Glue the top tube onto the bottom tube!
If you want the record to be covered, cover that with the fabric also.
and you're done!
And here is your beautiful finished product!

Now go on get to it! These make great gifts, and are absolutely adorable!

P.S I took all of these pictures with my brand new camera that I am absolutely in love with! My mom and fiance chipped in together and got me the Canon Powershot for Christmas and it's amaaaazing! It makes all your pictures look so professional and beautiful! If you're looking for a new camera, I would definitely recommend the Canon Powershot!

I bought this XL skirt at Rue 21 for $2. It was so cute and cheap, I couldn't pass it up, even though it was an XL. So when I got home, I made it into this adorable hi-waisted skirt!

Picture
I made this adorable summer shirt from a long-sleeved/akward-fitting Bob Marley shirt that someone gave to me (because it fits akward! Haha).

Even my man got into the diy-ing spirit hehe. And yes, he did it himself! <3

China Barbie Singing a Song in Mandarin Chinese
Hey loves! Today I thought I'd share something a little different; a video I took of me singing you guys a song! It's a Chinese folk song, that I learned from some of my friends while I was living in China. I loooove this song! It's called Li Bai Bai, and is about an old Chinese man who wanted to join the Chinese Army, but they don't want him to join because his butt is too big, and they're afraid that the Japanese army would be able to spot him too easily! Long story short, Li Bai Bai joins the army, and ends up getting stabbed by a Japanese soldier, because he spotted his butt from afar! Hahahahaha yea for real! Anyways, it's a great song, and here ya go!

Hehe hoped you liked it! It's just something super random that makes me super happy, hope it made you happy too!:P You can visit my Youtube Channel here!

Peace Love and Li Bai Bai

Creating closure by looking at your 2013 Goals (plus MY 2013 Goals!)

At the beginning of 2013, I wrote a post about setting goals for the new year, and even set a few of my own! Did you set any goals for 2013? If you didn't, why not? I think goal-setting is an integral part of having a happy and rewarding life (I write a little about that here). I'm not going to get super into goal-setting today, because I did that last week. I'm just going to share with you how my 2013 goals went!
Bonus if you write your goals in an adorable notebook!

Create closure by looking at your 2013 Goals
Financial Goals:
Make $13,000-
This year I did not reach my $13,000 goal. But considering that I took off two months to travel at the beginning of the year, and then suddenly quit my job and found a new one halfway through the year, I am very happy with the amount of money I made this year!
Save $2,000 for California- This year my financial goals flip-flopped around a little, and I decided that I needed to be saving most of my money for my wedding, house (I explain that below), and stocking my emergency fund. I set aside $400 for Cali (even though we're not completely sure that's where we're going to move now, but I'm keeping that money there for when we do decide to move).

Save $500 for Retirement- Halfway through the year, I decided that I am going to quit focusing on saving for my retirement, and focus on saving for a house. My thinking is that once I have a house (paid for in cash!), then I will have plenty of money to save for retirement (since I won't be making mortgage payments)! This year I saved $1,300 for a house! That's more than double of what I was trying to save!
Save $700 for my Wedding- Done! And I had no idea that I would be using this money so soon either!:P

Career Goals:
Model-
I modeled for my fiancé's sister's photography business, but that's about it.
10,000 Pageviews in one month- In November, I came really really close to reaching this goal. This blog got more views than it ever has before; 8,027! So yes, I am disappointed that I didn't get 10,000, but getting so close to that number has assured me that it will happen in the very near future! Yay!
Get my Band Started- Sadly, this year getting my band started again was not a top priority, and it did not happen because I just didn't have time for it, with all my traveling, and working on this blog.

Find a place to Sell my Crafts- I am selling my record bowls on fiverr, some of my t-shirt pillows and tie dye clothing is at Quonset Hut, and the rest of my crafts you can find on my shop page, and facebook page! Yay! Suuuuuper excited about reaching this goal!

Learning/Development Goals:
Study Chinese 3 Days a Week-
I didn't do it three times every week, but I did do pretty good.

Be able to do a Split- Sadly, did not accomplish this. But I'm putting it on my list do accomplish in 2014!

Fun Goals:
Go on a cruise to the Bahamas- Done!
Go to China or India- As you know, I took a trip to China, and had an amaaaaazing time.
Go to Abbey Road- Done! You can read about it
here!
See Ben's band play two times- Yupp! Also read about that here!

Health Goals:
Do Yoga 3 times a week-
I did not do this three times  a week.
Drink 5 cups of water a day- Check!
Eat 1 tbs. coconut oil a day-
I did not do this every day, but the amount I did eat is better than nothing!
Eat healthier, homemade meals- Check!
Drink ACV every day-
I didn't do this every day, because I only drank it whenever I started to feel like I was getting sick, or a sickness was going around, and it helped soooo much! So I changed this goal.
Eat vitamins every day- Check! And I loooved how they made me feel!

Relationship Goals:
Stay just as happy with Nick- We're even happier! If you don't know why, read here!

Contribution Goals:
Give $456 to Compassion- I am proud to say that I almost doubled my goal, and gave a total of $734 to Compassion! I started sponsoring another child, so I now have two children that I sponsor through Compassion.
Buy jewelry from Eden- Done! Buying jewelry from Eden is a complete win-win; you get beautiful, hand-made, completely unique jewelry, and get to help women trying to escape the sex-slave business! Read more on this here.

All in all, I was very satisfied with how my goals went in 2013. I didn't accomplish every single one, and I did some editing of them throughout the year, but that's ok!

Now it's your turn! Get out your 2013 goals list, and go through them one by one, like I did mine, above. Looking at your goals, accomplishments, and shortcomings, will help you have closure for 2013; you can feel accomplished, and proud of the year that just was-even if you didn't reach every single one of your goals (like me!), because you will realize just how far you've come, and plus, it will let you see what really mattered to you in the past year, and what should matter to you in the coming year! Please sit and go through your 2013 goals, and reflect on the year. Remember to be gentle on yourself; If you didn't reach one of your goals, it's ok. If you didn't reach a goal, look it over, and decide if it's still something that you want to do. If it isn't, simply let it go; if it is, make it a 2014 goal, and do everything you can to make sure that this year you reach it.
Be proud of what you accomplished in 2013.

*How did your 2013 Goals go?!! Which ones did you accomplish? Which ones did you edit, and which ones didn't you reach? Share in the comments below!*
