Here is the tutorial for how I did my hair for the midnight showing of Batman The Dark Knight Rises.
This look was taken from a Pinup Hairstyle called Victory Rolls, but I thought it would look good, kind of like "ears" maybe? Haha. Here's some more pictures:

![]() Well, here's the pictures I promised you from our vacation! We went to Ohiopyle in Pennsylvania (I know, I'm still confused why it's called OHIOpyle, and it's in PA? But oh well! Haha). Me and the boyfriend went with his friends and their girlfriends. We had an awesome couple days camping (and adventures sleeping in a waaay too small tent!) ![]() We also got to go white water rafting! I was sooo excited (and nervous!) about that! We had a couple people fall out, but luckily not at the dangerous parts! So we all returned safe and sound! Haha. And last but not least, we got to go to the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium! The monkey pickin his nose and eatin it! Haha he was soo funny. Here's some more pictures from our day at the zoo! ![]() So that was my vacation! Hope you enjoyed the pictures! :) Peace Love and Vacation Jess <3 Chinese are beautiful people, we can't deny this. Their skin is flawless, you almost never see an obese Chinese person (sadly, this is changing more and more, since the arrival of McDonalds and KFC into China), and there is just a glow and a beauty surrounding them! Not to mention how youthful they look even when they are middle aged! I am aware that a lot of this has to do with genetics (and I think Asian people just in general are beautiful), but, I have a theory that their beauty has a direct correlation with their lifestyle. I lived in China for two years, and here is some things I've noticed about the Chinese lifestyle that I think us as Westerners (especially Americans) could take notes on (and all these pictures are mine, of people I know from China. They're just great people!). 1.They eat their vegetables! American meals mainly consist of: Cheese, Over-processed meat, and white pastas and breads. Chinese meals mainly consist of: Rice, Vegetables, Seafood, and Tofu (sometimes meat, but it's kind of expensive, so tofu is a cheaper, healthier option). How to become more Chinese: Learn to cook healthy, delicious meals that use a lot of vegetables, tofu, rice, and seafood. 2.They opt for home-made style food at restaurants over fast food, mass produced food, and the deep fried food that we tend to eat at restaurants. Since the rise of globalization, McDonalds and KFC have become pretty popular in China, but it is still more of a luxury for most people as it is actually more expensive than normal restaurants there, and so, fast food is only eaten occassionally. Definitely something Americans need to learn from. How to become more Chinese: Cut your fast food intake to only once or twice a month. 3.They don't eat cheese. Americans are sooo obsessed with cheese! But cheese really is not that good for you! Cheese really is a food that you can live without. Have you ever gone to a Chinese restaurant? Noticed anything? No cheese. Now, American Chinese restaurants are not real Chinese food, but some of the stuff is the same concept. And they don't use cheese in their recipes. China has been around a couple thousand years before America, and they seem to be doing pretty good without eating cheese! How to become more Chinese: Cut back on cheese! Learn to make some healthy, delicious Chinese dishes that use a lot of vegetables, and no cheese! 4.Asian people see pale skin as a sign of beauty. In America, we see tan skin as a sign of beauty. That is why when we get into our 30's and 40's, we look like we're in our 40's and 50's. We all know that excessive tanning causes premature wrinkling, but we do it anyways! In Asia however, pale skin is sought after. If you have pale skin, you are instantly beautiful (I think one reason why I love China so much is that when I was there, instead of having people make fun of my pale skin like I did in America, I had people coming up to me on the street telling me how beautiful my skin was!). Chinese girls go to the extreme to prevent their skin from getting any sunshine. They carry umbrellas with them when they walk outside on a sunny day (I did this too when I was there and I loved it), they even have face washes that "bleach" your skin to make it paler. Now I'm not suggesting the bleaching your skin part, but I definitely think Americans have some things to learn about protecting our skin from the sun's harmful uv rays! How to be Chinese: Wear sunscreen all the time, DO NOT GO TANNING (tanning booths don't even EXIST in China), and turn off the American mindset that only people with tan skin are beautiful! That is a stupid and close-minded thought! Read my post about being beautiful, even if you aren't tan! ![]() 5.They walk everywhere. Chinese people rarely join gyms or buy treadmills. It is unnecessary. Because, their LIFESTYLE involves exercise! They walk alll the time! To the bus stop, down the street to the grocery store, through side street markets to shop and eat, and after they eat a big meal at a restaurant with friends, they walk before going back home! Also, most Chinese people don't spend a lot of time at their house (on the couch in front of the tv like most Americans). Instead, they go the park and play ping pong, or walk through night markets, and every night at all parks, they have music and dancing (See picture, that's me dancing in the park)! Even the old people join in! How to be more Chinese: Walk! Take the stairs! Walk instead of taking a taxi! Don't sit in front of the tv all night! Play! Have fun! Go to your local park and ENJOY LIFE! 6.Eastern Medicine vs Western Medicine I have to be careful with this one to make sure that I don't write an entire article just on this! Western medicine (which is used in America, and the more developed "western" nations) is the term used to describe the treatment of medical conditions with medications, by doctors, nurses and other conventional healthcare providers who use methods developed according to Western medical and scientific traditions. It differs from Eastern, or alternative, medicine in its approach to treatment, which relies heavily upon industrially produced medications and a strict adherence to the formal scientific process. So in other words, Western Medicine; When someone gets sick, we immediately shove 500 bottles of (unhealthy, dangerous, addictive) pills down their throat. Eastern medicine (which is used in China and other "eastern" nations) is based on a tradition of more than 2,000 years, including various forms of herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, exercise, and dietary therapy. So in other words, Eastern Medicine is natural, and healthy, and actually helps heal you! It dosen't get you addicted to prescription (man made) medicine. So when a Chinese person gets sick, they don't start popping pills, but instead, they adjust their diet accordingly, sothat they eat foods that help their ailment, and stop eating foods that aren't good for it. They might get a pressure point massage, or an acupuncture treatment. How to be more Chinese: Adjust what you eat according to what your ailments are (if you have high blood pressure, stop eating meat! And salt! And all other foods that are extremely bad for high blood pressure!). Book an accupuncture appointment. Get a massage. See an Eastern Medicine Specialist. And cut back on unnecessary medication! 7. They drink tea every day In China, with every meal they drink tea (Compared to In America with every meal we drink pop...hmmm...). In the book "The Top 100 Traditional Remedies" by Sarah Merson, it has this to say about tea: "Tea contains useful quantities of nutrients like vitamins E and K for the skin and blood...Green tea is particularly rich in bioflavonoids, which help fight damaging free radicals." Does anybody know what free radicals do? Well, free radicals are what breaks down the elasticity in your skin, which is what causes wrinkles! Sooo MY theory is that China's tea drinking habits is a HUGE factor in their youthful appearance! How to be more Chinese: Drink more tea! And I am definitely not talking about the already made store bought tea with high fructose corn syrup as the number one ingredient! Buy tea bags and make your own tea! Green tea contains the most bioflavonoids, but other kinds of tea is still very good for you. Still don't believe me that China is healthier than America? When I lived there, I was talking to one of my Chinese friends about cancer, and they said that they didn't know a SINGLE person who had ever had cancer. Ever. Think about that... Maybe it is time that we as Americans, stopped and took a look at how we treat our bodies. Take a couple tips from China. Peace Love and Chinese Beauty Secrets Jess <3
So a little fact about me that you might not know...I am OBSESSED with Batman. Like completely obsessed. Like still sleep with a Batman comforter, Batman stuffed animal, and Batman build-a-bear (that my love bought me when we first met <3). Yea, that obsessed. I think it came from my childhood, cuz me and my brothers would always play with Batman action figures, watch Batman movies, and wear Batman shirts! So I guess to me, Batman has just always been associated with happiness, my family, and pure awesomeness!
Ok, enough about WHY I'm obsessed with Batman. And move on to...The Dark Knight Rises! Oh goodness gracious, I am trying right now to think of words to explain how truly amazing this movie was. It completely exceeded all my expectations! And I don't wanna be a spoiler alert, so I am just going to say that it was an amaaazing movie, and you need to go watch it! NOW! :P So last night, me and the boyfriend, and some friends went to see the Midnight release of the Dark Knight. I must say, I was kind of disappointed that not a lot of people were dressed up. Most people just wore Batman t-shirts. Here is what I wore:
What I was Wearing:
-My little brother's Batman cape -Batman corset and tutu my mom got me for Christmas from Rue 21 -Yellow boots I bought in China
Peace Love and Batman Jess <3 I lived in Arvada, Colorado for about 9 months after I graduated high school, and I loooved it. Colorado is such a great state. Not only is the weather PERFECT (Warm, but not too hot in the summer, and snowy, but not too cold in the winter), but the general attitude of the whole state is so chill and laid back. There also is so many things to do, especially if you go to downtown Denver. Facts: Arvada is a small suburb of Denver. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown Denver from Arvada. Things to Do: Go skinnydipping in a mountain lake (this one was freezing! haha) Drive a Jeep up a mountain Go hiking Take in the beautiful scenery Play in the snow Peace Love and Colorado Jess <3 ![]() P.s Tonight I am going to the midnight release of the Dark Knight Rises...SOOOOO excited (as you can see)!!!! Hehe :p On the 8th, me and the love of my life celebrated our one year anniversary. This was very special for us, because it was both of our first time having a one year anniversary with someone, and both of our longest relationship! *Sigh* How magical <3 To celebrate this, we went out to a movie and then ate at our all-time favoritest restaurant ever, Bonefish Grill. Yummmm :p Here's some pictures of our magical time!

Hello everyone! I know that today is not Tuesday, but tomorrow morning me and the boyfriend and some of his friends are going camping for a week, so I thought I'd just leave this with you today, since I will not be taking my laptop with me. I am sooo excited for this! It has been waaay too long since I've been on vacation! Allright well, I will be back Monday my dears (Oh! And the 12th will officially be the two month birthday of this blog! So leave me lots of lovin)! :D Perfect skin. It's something everyone wants, but yet, it is one of the hardest things to aquire. For years, I have struggled with my skin. I never had very good skin, but after years of research, trial and error, me and my skin have come to an understanding. It still isn't perfect (whose is?), but right now I am happy with my skin, and I wanted to share my secrets with YOU! Because really, when your skin looks good, you feel good. Now, I do have to warn you that my tips will not yield overnight results (nothing good ever does), so you need to be patient and keep consistent with them. Do some trial and error of your own, figure out what works for you, and what doesn't. Just because all of these things work for me, doesn't necessarily mean that they will work for you. ![]() Secret #1. Drink More Water! I know that this one is a pretty obvious one, and that people are always telling you that you need to drink more water, but honestly, I can tell a visible difference in my skin when I drink a lot of water one day and not the next. Water is the life source of everything. We need it to survive, and we also need it to thrive. Water replenishes your skin cells, and it flushes out wastes, removing toxins. H2o=Amazing skin! ![]()
Secret #2. Give Up Dairy
I know that you hate me right now for even suggesting this! But if you are truly serious about getting better skin, just hear me out. I read Dr. Jessica Wu's amaaazing book, "Feed Your Face (go read it, it's BRILLIANT!)." The book is all about the connection between what goes INTO your body, will show ON your body! The absolute best thing I got out of that book was her talking about how bad dairy is for you. She said that if you have problem skin that you just can't get to clear up, try cutting dairy out of your diet! So I did (and I also discovered that I was lactose intolerant by doing this). And it worked! And now I notice that I feel sooo much better now that I'm not eating dairy! And if i do eat it, it is NOT pretty. Everybody always says to me, "I don't know how you do it! I could NEVER do that! I could never give up cheese!" Well, if you want to clear up your face, and just feel better in general (Americans consume waaay too much dairy in general), give up dairy for a couple months and see how you feel. And if you refuse to do that, at least cut back on it. ![]()
Secret #3. My Baking Soda Scrub
I looove Baking Soda! It is so useful for SO many things! This scrub is super simple to make and use. All you do is put a little bit of baking soda in a bowl, then mix a liiiiiitle bit of water in with it so it forms a paste. Twice a week, after you are done washing your face at night, use this paste to scrub your face. But remember to BE GENTLE with your face; Don't use more than twice a week, don't scrub around your delicate eye region, and don't literally "scrub" your face. Just gently rub your skin with it. Also, if you have blackheads, just leave it on them for a couple minutes, then continue scrubbing your face. Rinse with lukewarm water then apply your normal moisturizer. Which brings me to our next secret...
Secret #4. Don't forget to use moisturizer! I used to never use moisturizer because I thought it would make me break out even more. But then I learned, that even oily skin needs some moisturizer! Just be sure to use a non comedogenic kind. Which brings me to our next secret... ![]() Secret #5. I loove MaryKay's Time Wise Skincare Line This skincare line is soo amazing and I love it! Use it! ![]()
And last but not least,
Secret #6. Don't forget to eat your fruits and veggies... and tofu, and whole wheats, almond milk, brown rice, tempeh...all that stuff that is actually HEALTHY for your body! Of course you are going to look and feel terrible if you keep putting chemicals and poison in your body! Stop and actually READ the ingredients before you eat it! If you can't pronounce it, it's a man-made chemical! It is NOT meant to eat! Why do you think everyone in America is overweight, apathetic, unhappy, and dying! OF COURSE if you eat POISON, you are going to get SICK! Just remember that. It is sooo unbelievably simple, and obvious! Don't eat poison. You wouldn't drink a big can labeled with a skull and crossbones that says "Poison", so why would you consume something that says "High fructose corn syrup" and "Aspartame (both of which WILL poison your body!)"?!! Just think about it...un-brainwash yourself from what society says, and from what they expect...just think about it...and choose for yourself... Well there you have it! My top 6 Secrets for Clearer Skin (and just general well being in general I guess!) Now, go get started (Aren't you EXCITED?!!)! Peace Love and Clear Skin Jess <3 Ahhh summer...my favorite time of the year. It just instantly makes me happier! And I always have sooo much funn! But recently, I've realized that a lot of people get super bored during the summer, and that is just not right! So I have compiled a little list of things that me and my friends like to do during the summer, complete with pictures of us doing them! How fun is that? :D 1. Sit on a roof with some people you love 2. Start a game of backyard football 3. Ride your bike into/around town 4. Have brunch outdoors with some friends 5. Go see a local band play 6. Make some music yourself 7. Make life-sized shadow puppets 8. Go play at the park 9. Have a bonfire 10. Ride a bicycle built for two 11. Run through a fountain (or sprinklers, or a water hose!) 12. Hula Hoop! Now go on out and enjoy your summer! Peace Love and Summer Jess <3 What do you do when you find that you are not "traditionally" beautiful? You know, the impossible standard of beauty which American women seem to be held to by television, magazines, and the runway. Tall, stick skinny, big boobs, blonde hair, blue eyes, tan skin, a small nose, and perfect, symmetrical features, with zero "flaws (freckles, moles, or gaps)". The truth is, that standard is very difficult/impossible to reach! And if i'm being honest with you, I don't even WANT to look like that! I honestly think the most beautiful women i've ever seen are not tall, skinny, tan and blonde! They have their own unique look, and they look amaaaazing! True beauty is being yourself! It's being different, and rocking that different look! I will use myself as an example. I am not "Traditionally" beautiful. Actually, probably the complete opposite of every "traditional" beauty expectation! (an unedited photo of me, with very little makeup on) I am short (5'2), I have a big butt, VERY pale skin, freckles, a pointy/crooked nose, a mole on my chin, green/brown eyes, black hair (with different fun colors in it usually), and very thick dark eyebrows. You see, the exact opposite of the"traditional" beauty features! And can I tell you a secret? I don't mind one bit. In fact, I think I'm beautiful(!). I wouldn't trade any of my "quirky" features for anything! I looove how my naturally black hair contrasts with my naturally ghostly pale skin! And I have never had problems getting guys. Infact, a lot of my unconventional beauty characteristics is what guys like about me most! My shortness, my big butt, my pale skin, and my freckles, just to name a few. Now, I'm definitely not saying to measure your beauty against guy's opinions of your looks! Or anyone's for that matter! But i'm just simply pointing out that a lot more guys are steering away from the conventional beauty and they actually PREFER girls with quirks or just something different about them! So that you know, that if you're tanning and starving yourself just to get the attention of a guy, you don't have to! (^^^Just so you can get an idea of how pale I really am, and how different I look from other people, especially in this picture!) Different is BEAUTIFUL! Now I am going to talk a little about America's obsession with tanning, and how you DON'T need to be tan to be beautiful! In America, we have this strange notion that tan=beautiful, and pale=ugly. This myth is completely untrue, and makes me very sad. I'm not saying that tan people are ugly. I'm saying that there shouldn't be one over the other. If you are naturally dark skinned, I think it looks good. If you are naturally pale, it also looks good! As you all already know, if you tan when your young (aside from potential skin cancer risk, which no one seems to pay any mind to), when you are older, you look like an old piece of leather! And you know exactly who I'm talking about. You've seen them. And you most likely thought to yourself, I do NOT want to look like that when I'm older. Well I have some news for you, if you tan excessively, YOU WILL! Scary huh? So I will just never understand how people started thinking that tan=beautiful. It blows my mind! Some of the most beautiful women I've seen have pale skin. Here's a little story about how this tan=beautiful myth affected my life. I am a very pale person. My mom has pale skin, freckles, and red hair, and I definitely got the pale skin and freckles from her. When I was in Junior High, people would make fun of my pale skin all the time (looking back, and even some people today still doing that, I realized they were doing it to make themselves feel better. They loved pointing out how white my skin was, so that their skin would look more tan. I know, sad right?). So of course being at that fragile age, and having everyone make fun of my pastyness, and seeing that all the "hott" girls at skool were tan, I decided that I was going to get tan! So I laid out. And let me tell you, it was sooo boring! I hated it! And not only that, but I got burnt, which is nooo fun, and the burn didn't even fade into a tan! It just went right back to my original paleness! So after that, I made a decision. I decided that it was dumb to try and be something that I'm not, to impress other people. That doing something I got no enjoyment out of, and would eventually give me gross wrinkly skin, was so incredibly dumb! Let me tell you, it was so freeing! Not having to pretend to be someone I wasn't! And I learned to just ignore people who had the nerve to make fun of me. And I have to admit, imagining them as being old wrinkly 30 year olds who look 50, while my skin still looks like I'm in my 20's, helps a lot :) So from that day on, I have embraced my skin. I wear sunscreen every day, avoid being in the sun for long periods of time during it's strongest times (Noon -4pm), and never set foot anywhere close to a tanning booth! That decision started out as just trying to accept myself, and not let myself be influenced by other people, or their opinion of beauty, and since making that decision, I now looove my pale skin. I think it is one of the things that makes me beautiful! The black you see in my hair is my natural hair color (my dad has black hair and dark skin, so I got the hair from him), and I think that my skin color goes beeeautiful with my hair color. So here I am ROCKING my pale skin. And ever since I've started doing that, a lot less people make fun of it. There is something about a woman who is confident in her skin. She just LOOKS more beautiful! Now, I could keep writing about how girls who have dark hair, are short, have gaps, have freckles, or are not stick thin are BEAUTIFUL! OR! I could just show you...! I present to you, REAL women. Not famous, photoshopped, have hair and makeup artists on call 24/7 women, but real women, and they are some of the most beautiful people I know... ![]() My friends Julie n Tiff <3
Are you seeing how different everyone looks! And they are all beautiful and EXCITING!Diversity is sooo beautiful you guys! Remember that. Remember that next time you open a magazine and feel bad that you don't look like the models on its pages. You don't NEED to! Because you already ARE beautiful. Repeat after me: "I am unique. I am beautiful." Peace, Love and Diversity Jess <3 |
