My Top 10 Places to Travel Pt. 9; Fiji

In 2006 I had the amazing opportunity to visit Fiji!
In my lifetime, I have been to 24 states, and 15 countries, and Fiji is by far one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen!
It was an experience unlike any other, obviously, because it made it onto my Top Ten Places to Travel list! So here I have for you, my top things to do in Fiji!

Fiji Travel Guide
Live like a local!
Sure when you think of Fiji you think of white sandy beaches, clear blue water, and basically paradise (we will get to that later!). But that is not how most Fijians live, believe it or not, Fiji is actually a third world country!
When I was in Fiji, me and my friends stayed in a little church in the middle of nowhere. During the day, we rode around in the back of a little pickup truck, visiting the locals, and experiencing their culture! This is how you truly experience a country! Through the eyes, customs, traditions, and lives of the locals!

This is out back of the church. That little building was where we showered. We washed our laundry by hand, then hung it up to dry in the tropical breezes!

Buses, boats, vans, the back of a pickup truck! Either way, getting from point a to point b is never dull in Fiji!

The city is a great place to experience the local markets, shops, restaurants, we even found a karaoke night club!

Climb a mountain
Making your way to the top of a mountain (whether it's by walking or driving), is one of the most worthwhile things you will do while in Fiji.
Ask the locals about a good mountain, or just find one yourself!

Tropical Island it up!
Now this is what most people think of when they think of Fiji!
The South Pacific Nation of Fiji is made up of 322 islands! We found one of the smallest, and most touristy ones to take a day trip to!

Soon after arriving on the island, my friend Collin had a guitar in his hand, and was singing Jack Johnson's "Banana Pancakes" with the house band! It was super cool!

I swam, explored, and even got to drive a water ski!
That was one of the coolest things I have ever done! Even though it was 9 years ago, I still remember it perfectly! I was out in the middle of the ocean, zipping around on a water ski, when all of a sudden I looked down, and I could see straight down into the crystal clear water! I saw coral, and rocks, and fish! It was just plain magic!

Mermaid Braids Video Tutorial
These "Mermaid Braids" are super adorable, and surprisingly simple! I learned how to do a mermaid braid from a hair book I have. After seeing how cute it looked, I decided that I wanted to do two instead of one, and I absolutely loved the look!
So here is how to do your very own Mermaid Braids!
(And don't mind my face in all these pictures! I was super distracted and in a hurry! Haha)

Try it! This looks cute with long hair, medium hair, and short hair too!

Meal from Ingredients already in your Kitchen!

A Meal from Ingredients already in your Kitchen
This meal is for the busy housewife who needs a quick and simple meal that doesn't require a trip to the grocery store! Just use these 8 ingredients that you can very easily keep stored in your cupboards and freezer at all times!

Here are the Eight Ingredients that you should keep in your kitchen at all times!
1. Chicken. Breasts, legs, it doesn't matter. Just keep frozen chicken in your freezer at all times.
2. Noodles. Not pasta noodles, egg noodles. Buy 5 bags at a time, they'll keep forever, and keep them in your cupboard!
3. Canned French Style green beans. I buy at least 5 cans at a time and put them in my cupboard. These will keep forever also!
4. Margarine or Butter.
5. Garlic powder. Keep this versatile and delicious spice on your spice rack at all times!
6. Salt.
7. Lemon Juice. Buy one bottle of lemon juice, and it will last for years!
8. Olive oil or cooking oil.

Now! When you just get home from running errands, you're exhausted, and everyone's hungry, here's what you do!

The chicken takes longest, so first, either call someone who's at home at least 15 minutes before you get there and tell them to take the chicken out of the freezer, or take it out yourself, and throw it in the microwave for about a minute. Next, take a knife and stab little holes all over the chicken. Take a couple tablespoons of  lemon juice and dump it all over the chicken. Take your garlic powder and your salt, sprinkle it on the chicken, then rub it in with your hands. Wash your hands, then put some olive oil in a pan, and once it's hot, put your chicken in! Rotate the chicken occasionally, and don't take it out until there is no more pink in the middle.

After you've put your chicken in the pan, you can get started on the rest of the food! Boil some water, then put your egg noodles in. While you're waiting for your egg noodles to cook, open a can (or two) of green beans. Drain the water, put some olive oil in a pan, and once the oil's hot, dump your green beans in. Keep an eye on the green beans, because they don't need to be cooked, only warmed up.

Once your noodles are soft, drain them, then put them back in the pot. Add lots of butter or margarine, and garlic powder and salt to taste (put a little bit in at first, stir it all up, taste it, and see if you want more). Do the same for the green beans; add butter or margarine, and garlic powder and salt to taste. Make sure it's stirred up good!

Once the chicken is ready, you have a delicious three piece meal that took less than half an hour, and no last-minute trips to the grocery store!

(Pssst! Here is an extra you can do if you want to! It takes one more ingredient, but it's for the green beans, and my husband said they're the best green beans he's ever eaten! I dice up a couple fresh or frozen mushrooms and sautee them in olive oil before adding the green beans to the pan!)
