5 Reasons Why Hocking Hills Should be on Your Bucket List

Looking for something fun to add to your Bucket List that won't cost you an arm and a leg or a trip around the world (I'm looking at you, overwater bungalows in Bora Bora!)?
Consider Hocking Hills, Ohio!
Feeling doubtful that there's something cool enough in Ohio to add to your Bucket List? To that I say;
A. Ohio is awesome, and there's actually plenty of cool things to do here.
and
B. Hocking Hills is definitely Bucket List worthy!
Here are my 5 Reasons Why Hocking Hills should be on your Bucket List.

1. You can rent a cabin in the woods with a hot tub and a fireplace
And isn't that all we really want?

2. Amazing hikes for hiking enthusiasts and non-hikers alike
I like hiking, but am definitely not a professional, and me and Rocco absolutely loved the hiking Hocking Hills had to offer. Even when it was 28 degrees outside, we loved it!

3. Out of this world views that you will make you believe you are not in Ohio
Holy moly, you will not believe some of the insane things you will see while exploring Hocking Hills (like the Devil's Bathtub, above)!

4. You can do as little or as much as you want here
Hocking Hills is a great place to escape everyday life, do some soul searching, mosey along a sleepy trail, relax in a hot tub, and read in front of a crackling fireplace.
Or, you can hike the 25 miles of trails, go kayaking, horseback riding, and zip lining!

5. You can bring your dog here
Rocco loved his trip to Hocking Hills (I didn't have Kramer yet), and I loved having him there.
I visited here during my divorce, and being able to get away with Rocco for a weekend was exactly what my soul needed.
I am always looking for fun dog-friendly places and activities, and Hocking Hills is the perfect place for that.

Staying in a Yurt in Torch Lake, Michigan

Staying in a yurt in Torch Lake, Michigan
Staying in a yurt is a definite bucket list experience!
I know I absolutely loved the experience of camping, while simultaneously sleeping on a Queen sized bed!

September 2021 in one weekend, Chase and I had our one year anniversary of when we re-met, and our six month dating anniversary, so we wanted a little romantic escape!
We didn't want to go too far, or spend too much money (I was in the process of buying my house!), so staying in a yurt in Michigan was the perfect choice!

Our yurt was located on Rocky Top Farms, a super adorable and funky (you know how much I love funky things!) little farm that grows cherries, creates preserves from said cherries (which you receive a complimentary jar of with your stay!), has nearly 300 acres of hiking and biking trails, and is totally off the grid!

It is located only 2.5 miles from Lake Michigan and Torch Lake beaches!
Now, if you've never been to Torch Lake beaches, it is something special! We went in September, and it was rainy and chilly the majority of our stay, so we did not get to swim in the lake, but we did experience the beach, and it was just so cool to see a legit beach in Michigan! Definitely not what popped into my head when I thought of Michigan!

To make our campsite even more incredible, it was waterfront! Yes, we could look out the door (flap?) of our yurt, or across our firepit at a gorgeous lake view!

And it included a paddleboat which we of course used!
How romantic!

We both like to camp, and this was just an elevated, incredible camping experience!
It was also our first time away alone together, so we really enjoyed time spent together at this magical place.
Want to stay in the exact tent we stayed in?
Or visit Rocky Top Farms to see all that they have to offer.

    I'm Jessica!

I've traveled all over the world, but Ohio is where I call home. I'm a lifestyle & travel blogger, and author. I love setting goals, reading, and snuggling up with my fur babies. I can usually be found at my local thrift store, or in the hammock in my backyard.
